History
Rhody the Ram, the University mascot, has made his mark at hundreds of athletic games, countless numbers of Admissions events and even more community appearances. He is arguably the most recognized figure here at URI, and a tradition that we are extremely proud of. The Ram made its first official appearance in 1929 when Rhode Island State College played Connecticut in football. And while over the years the name has changed from Battering Ram to Ramses to Rhody the Ram, our much-loved mascot has always been right at the heart of URI spirit. Just this past February, Rhody received a makeover. He is looking as powerful as ever.
Mascot Appearance Request
If you would like to have Rhody make an appearance at your on campus event, please contact his Rhode Manager at rhodytheram@urisaa.org. Please note, that we will make every attempt to have Rhody appear at your event, however due to his busy schedule no request will be guaranteed. All requests must be made no later than 2 weeks prior to the event. Request a visit from Rhody here.
If your request is approved, you must be able to provide Rhody a clean, private place to change before and after the event. At least two bottles of water must be available for him as well. In addition, if the event lasts longer that 3 hours, a meal and a private room to rest must be provided.
